Per Eva’s observation, it certainly can end in bad general outcomes. I think there is something of a flaw in that you could wind up with kind of mediocre candidate winding up on top. But that’s democracy. I support democracy! Also: I fully admit to being wrong a lot. Anyway, thank you for the comments. J.
I'm curious what you have against ranked choice voting. It seems like it would give you more moderate candidates, instead of the extreme right/left that we currently have.
You beat me to it. Though, didn't it give 1-2 spots to candidates of the same party? That doesn't sound too good to me. I can see it working in a primary, but in a general, may not be great.
I try to tone-down my use of the word hate in light of the general rhetoric these days. But I HATE HATE HATE ranked choice voting! I simply do not like the idea of choosing more than one candidate for one seat! It’s like having three names for an unborn child after it’s born and then you finally have to choose THE NAME. As Eva said, we can end up with a mediocre candidate being elected. OMG! WTF! JFC!
That is EXACTLY the problem we have with third (or forth or fifth) parties on the ballot! We can hear their presentation and if I like what they have to offer, I’ll vote for that person! Its simple!
I don’t want to waste (my word!) on candidates running for election I don’t want! I really believe if ranked choice voting achieves it full potential, not only will political parties become irrelevant, many more voters will end up with elected officials they don’t want.
I’m old so you can blame it on my intransigence and old ways. But I don’t think this because is because I’m old fart! I’m am very open to listening to ideas other than mine. Ranked choice voting is flat out WRONG because if I think there are two candidates who seem roughly equal and wonderful there is likely difference enough between them. Why on earth, after choosing the candidate I DO want, I would vote for someone I felt is less able to do the the position.
I’m done ranting for the night!
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph! We have to this terrible cross road! Wake me when it’s over!!!

Thanks for these. Waiting to see what you’ll do with WaPo helping the orange one murder democracy in the dark.
