I admire your ability to illuminate this tragedy with such precision and, yes, dignity. The poor fellow. What an unfathomable weight to endure for such a long time indeed. Maybe there are superheroes?

Thank you for returning those of us old enough to be living that day to the gut wrenching occurrence and continuing to tell the story of how it affected the world and each of us. How difficult these last 60+ years must have been for Mr Hill; may he rest in strength realizing at least now how appreciated and respected he is for the job he did.

May angels sing him to his well-deserved rest.

On November 22, 1963, I was six, sent home from school. We lived in Havre, Montana. I watched the funeral, sitting on Dad's lap. I felt so sad for Carolyn and John-John.

I was 13. My mom had run his San Fernando Valley campaign, and we kids met Senator Kennedy at the Convention. I got a hug. Given the times we live in, this line stood out for me.

"The White House Secret Service detail was badly understaffed and overextended, to be sure." We've much at risk as Americans today, the assassin's were able and, it seems, ready to walk right in...

Thank you, Jack, for this gut-wrenching account of Mr Hill’s actions on that horrific day in Dallas. I was five years old and just arrived home from attending kindergarten when I saw the television broadcast. My mother was weeping. I knew something terrible happened but didn’t understand the full implications. Thank you for providing the terrifying details of the assassination of President Kennedy. I’m proud and privileged to support your work. I’m the sister of Marseda Laing of Lake Oswego, OR. I became a fan of yours many years ago because of her. Please know how important your work is to so many of us. Thank you.

Thanks for enlightening us, regarding Clint Hill's participation in the tragedy we will never forget.

It's one of those days where everyone can recall exactly where they were when the news broke.

This was a tough read, but one which tenderly fleshed out and added new and greater detail to a story we've heard recounted frequently. Thanks for sharing what must have been an unbearable burden which Clint Hill carried with him since that fateful day. I'm glad he's finally at peace.

We of that era recall exactly where we were when we learned of this tragedy. As a 12 year old living in the Midwest it was innocence lost. It was the first of many incidents of reality striking home for several decades.

I can’t imagine first responders such as Mr. Hill dealing with the aftermath. I didn’t know his story and I’m appreciative of your post. RIP Mr. Hill and so grateful he acted quickly to save the First Lady.
