Here, here, for your dad, Jack! As a retired federal contractor, living in the DC area, many of my friends do tireless, under appreciated work on behalf of the American people. In every instance, they chose service over money! Thank G-d for your father and others! Our taxes would be sky high if we depended on private companies to do all this work. And accountability would be sporadic.

Applauding all of the federal workforce. Hang tough! The American people are with you even though we don’t thank you enough

Thanks for this bit of personal history, and for providing one example of how a healthy and functional Federal government works for the people.

Very personal and realistic, Jack! Here in Canada we get the same slurs at ANY government job, but like you said, with pay scales way much below the private sector, there doesn't seem to be much of a lineup!! This administration, using the term lightly, is unwinding civilization as we know it with nothing to replace it beyong the greed of a few people people with tiny minds!

(maybe takes the attention away from tiny hands:)

My hat's off to your dad. I wonder if that little snotnose Vought has ever done an honest day's work in his life? I read his CV; he has no business being anywhere NEAR government.

Thank you for sharing your personal perspective and story.

Too many people are too ignorant to understand what is going on with 47, 2025, DOGE and the villains we have been watching for the past 10 years and more… trying to make everything about someone else. The price of eggs being the poster child for simplicity and ignorance. We are screwed if half the population doesn’t WAKE UP!

My nephew runs a Hotshot firefighting crew for the US Forest Service. Those incredible federal employees risk their lives every fire season defending our national forests, property, and lives. I am disgusted with Trump, Musk, Vought, etc., and the bloody fools who voted for and support them. Thank you for this column which brings the truth about our civil service people out in a real and personal way. I honor the memory of your father's service to our country.

I, too, thank your dad (and tens of thousands of other federal government employees) for their service. It too often goes unappreciated.
