The knit in by ICE headquarters yesterday was great fun. All the Auntie Tifas enjoying the sun and annoying the folks at ICE with the clicking of their knitting needles.
Now that deserves a photo. I went looking for one online and didn't turn up anything, except one of Portland cops joining in the fun. They're all knitting with the grandmas, across the street from ICE, with the ICE goons beating up on somebody in the background. I can't figure out how to paste the photo here, but you can see it athttps://thatoregonlife.com/2025/10/portland-police-host-knitting-circle/
We went to a concert in Portland Wednesday night (Wolf Alice!). It was at the Crystal Ballroom, and we walked the several blocks from our hotel. It was perfectly safe (of course). Great concert, by the way.
Thank you for a great homage to Portland! I think it's a great city, and beautiful. Trump likes to create crises, then try to solve them, so he looks good. All it does is make him look like a clown. Unfortunately, a dangerous one
We spent the first year of our marriage in funky, quirky Portland, just a few months after Mt. St. Helens erupted. We loved it. Fast forward to telling the truth today: Per Capita gun death tallies are misleading. Texas is responsible for more than 10% of the horrific tally of 40K+ gun deaths each year in the US. White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said “President Trump will not turn a blind eye to the lawlessness plaguing American cities and we expect to be vindicated by a higher court.” Given that, hopefully the Texas Guard will be sent back home to supervise their neighbors. No one needs it more, other than Flordia. If both states were disarmed, annual gun deaths would drop nearly 17%. Greg Abbott’s previous comments suggest he’ll support it. “You can either fully enforce protection for federal employees or get out of the way and let Texas Guard do it,” Abbott said in a post on X.” https://publichealth.jhu.edu/center-for-gun-violence-solutions/gun-violence-data/state-gun-violence-data
I was raised in Portland, graduated from PSC (yes C, not U) in 1967 and visit Portland (from Sacramento) often to see relatives and VERY long time friends. I enjoy your daily cartoons and commentary and enjoyed this essay, especially the Bud Clark - Goose Hollow memory. Uncounted Friday nights ended up with meeting friends at The Goose! Yes the Reuben was the best and Bud was a character - though I remember him as a tad more irascible than you do. Btw Sigrid had a small but interesting antique store.
Soo.. thanks for the memories… And your daily cartoons. B. Tobey

There's good weird and there's bad weird. The Tr*mp kind is definitely BAD WEIRD.
Thank you for this, Jack❣️ Nicely told.

Thank you, sir!
And the photo you chose, an amphibian vs. a BDSM, fits.
(And I look back fondly on Bud and Mildred arguing about the budget.)
Should have mentioned Vera too.

This is great AND thanks for the recommendation for Goose Hollow, I haven’t been there for years! Time for a Reuben!
