Thank goodness for Ann's substack, Open Windows. Ann, Jen Rubin, and Alexandra Petri are the reasons I didn't dump my subscription. I subscribe to you, de Adder, and Ann because you have the mantra, "Damn the torpedos! Full Speed Ahead!" Keep telling the truth, Jack. And thanks for doing it,
Thank you, Jack. All well-said. Just remember, I can call you "Kid" if nudged. So, Kid, TWP was not always the top paper in D.C. The Watergate and Nixon took it to the top. No paper looks like it will ride 34 felonies & Trump upward. We can't bring the Evening Star back, but online publishing has also changed a lot of stuff. Ann is a champion, as are so many editorial cartoonists (you too, Kid).
Thnx Jack… of course, we all share your utter contempt for the gutless sycophants who pass for editors these days… We both know it happened to me just a couple of years ago… And all day I’ve been asking myself… What good is being one of the richest bastards in the world if you have to bow and scrape before a jackass like Trump ?
I’m glad I waited to cancel my subscription, since she was one of two reasons I still read the Post. Ironically I discovered it expires June 21, just as it starts getting dark again, but I’ll make my statement now.
She's fantastic on Substack. And you, Jack, best essay ever. Are we waiting for all the outspoken media peeps to start getting arrested? I'm not a big media celeb but there are a couple of other reasons they could come after me.
I would love to see a campaign to ask readers all over social media to draw cartoons on the same topic of Jeff Bezos cow-towing to Trump - to show solidarity with Ann!
Insightful and to the point as usual Jack. After Wapo canned DeAdder and spiked the Harris endorsement I sent in a notice of cancellation. Then thought about it overnight and rescinded the cancellation to show support for Ann and some of the writers who remained. But this incident is just the last in a long trek to bland features (“Simple and affordable ways to update your closet”) and supplication to the oligarchy that only promises to increase. I haven’t sent in my cancellation yet, but I don’t think I’m going to miss Mike Ramiirez and George Will very much.
And in the naked light, I saw ten thousand people, maybe more. People talking without speaking. People hearing without listening. People writing songs that voices never shared. People drawing cartoons that papers never shared. And no one dared disturb the sounds of silence.

Absolutely

I plan to do it
So glad you’re here.
Me, too, Beth.
Thank you, Jack.
I canceled my subscription today, The Post has crossed the line one time too many.

As we rightly imagined, this side of the Rubicon is the shitz.

Thanks for being a beacon of light.
