You’re the man now, dog!

(Obscure-ish film reference;)

The only time I ever heard my elegantly restrained mother swear had to do with shingles… she’d had the shots but got shingles anyway. “Fuck the shot.” 😳

Thank goodness (and good people, and good meds and therapy, and good luck) you’re doing better. I look forward to your essays, and this one had me a little teary. But also - I love your drawing style! (We don’t talk nearly enough about that, and we should also talk about Daumier and Thomas Nast while we’re at it.)

So glad you are doing better! With or without daddy's little helpers.

I had shingles in my 20s; I understand the "not a picnic" status.

I look forward to your column and cartoons , Jack. Because of you I have started my own SubStack page and it is flourishing!

I had the shingles Xmas day 2022! It was one of the worst sicknesses I’ve had to date! Way worse than the Omicron covid virus. Did not realize I had it til full rash broke out all over my breast and back! No Shingles shots for me!! My sister has taken 3 shingles shots and has had shingles 7 times. Last month was the 7th time!!

Love the honesty in this one. I can for sure relate due to some life hardships like my divorce in 2001. Thanks for writing this.

So very happy you are on Substack. I have missed you at the Sacto Bee ( I don’t read it anymore either!). The Bee and the David Enterprise have lost their minds. You and Bob Dunning have a huge fan base in the Sacramento valley. I’m glad to be part of it.
