This was a great read! So down to earth plus your natural comedic touch that we can identify with and envy at the same time.

Seemingly without trying to be, you are an evocative writer, you impale what is important on a size 12 Mustad, and you let the story play on its own with a little input from you. I enjoy your work, writing and drawing, and I hope to see it for many years onward.

An absolute gem. Any time you fire up your time machine, count me in.

Great stuff, Jack.

I can't match that, but I did omce get paid $300 and free pancakes for a 7 a.m. speech at the Catholic Breakfast Club in Modesto. You should also know that among your thousands of subscribers, you and I are the only ones who actually know where Gresham is.

Do you remember Thanksgiving at Uncle John's and Aunt Louise's?

Ha -- this is great! I too have lost 99% of my ambition, but mostly because I'm now older than dirt, and there's really nowhere "up" for dirt to go. You paint one hell of a picture here: Walter Cronkite, Eric Sevareid, Peter Jennings - what a night for you, and what a memory!

The most surreal evening of my life. Easily.

Great column! A brush with greatness, and you're gone like lint.

Ashes to ashes, lint to lint!

Great story! Was that Lars you referenced ?

“But, at the time, I could smell the ozone for a moment. Narcissistic heroin” is poetic. Not being the next Andy Rooney sounds like the best possible outcome for you and your loved ones.

Agreed. I’d like to do something like that now, if I didn’t want to go to bed at 9.

Same. I take comfort in the fact that, like rats, we problem-solve while we dream. And it’s going take a lot of problem-solving to reverse 400 years of damage and deceit, imho. https://news.mit.edu/2002/dreams

Wonderful story! You have plenty of "pop" in person.
